Through our work with the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector in London we identified that people struggled to find a clear picture of what is going on in the sector both London wide and in their own borough. And, while there are several large publically available data sets to explore, most organisations don't have the resources to tap into them properly. So we decided to try and create a tool which could provide people an accessible, easy to use way of exploring London's amazing VCSE sector. We've only just started on the journey but thought we'd share where we currently are so that people can road test and feedback on it before we launch it.
So, here's our prototype allowing exploration of Charity Commission data within a borough of your choice. Click on your borough on the map to enable the buttons or go to the list view to select multiple boroughs.
We've already made lots of additions to the dashboard based on your feedback so please continue to let us know what would be useful and we'll do our best to include it.
Our next step is adding data from Companies House on Charitable Incorporated Companies (CICs) and Comunity Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC's) to create a fuller picture of London's Voluntary Community Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector.
See also a video demonstrating the tool here.
Please note this is a prototype we're using as a proof of concept. The data shown only comes from the main Charity Commission data table download (there are 13!) we are working on streamlining data connections so that we update it on a regular basis and on bringing in data from Companies House and 360 Giving.
We'd love to hear your thoughts... Will this be useful for you? Do you have any suggestions for additional specific functionality you'd like to see?
